PLACES TO VISIT IN MANIPUR
Loktak Lake is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Manipur, located 53 kms from Imphal. Considered as one of the largest freshwater lakes in India, Loktak boasts of circular floating swamps, which is locally called phumdis. Sendra Island of Manipur is situated amid the lake and spread over 300 square mt, which makes it popular for boating, picnic, and photography. It also supplies water for irrigation and hydel power to nearby areas.
Encircling the Loktak Lake, Keibul Lamjao National Park is best known for floating flora of phumdis and endangered brow-antlered deer or sangai. Offering mesmeric views of the lake, this national park, sprawling over 40 sq. km is one of the most beautiful Manipur tourist attractions. Moreover, Keibul Lamjao National Park is also known to be World’s only floating sanctuary and quite popular amongst nature lovers, wildlife enthusiasts, and ornithologists.
Besides being home to animals like sambar, wild boar, hog deer and jungle cat, this place boasts of a large number of endangered as well as common bird species like East Himalayan pied kingfisher, spotbill duck, ruddy shell-duck, Burmese pied Myna, and Indian white-breasted waterhen.
Tharon Cave or The Uluan Cave is among the fascinating tourist attractions in Manipur. Located near Tamenglong, this 650 m long cave tunnel consists of carvings and excavations of Hovnanian Culture of North Vietnam. Featuring 5 exits and 34 joints, this cave is a favorite amongst trekkers and adventure junkies. Manipur State Tourism Department organizes cave expedition program every year, where people enjoy the thrill of walking through the dim tunnels.
Kangla Fort, which is also known as the Palace of Kangla is located close to Imphal River. Kangla Fort was the administrative seat of various Manipur kings from Nongda Lairen Pakhangba to Maharaja Kulachandra. The remains of the fort speak of Manipur’s rich history and heritage. Comprising of temples, citadel and coronation halls, Kangla Fort is a hot favorite tourist site in Manipur among history buffs, photographers, and architectural enthusiasts.
Opening hours: 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The fort is closed on Wednesdays.

Snugly located at about 920 m above sea level, Singda Dam is the highest mud dam in the World and a sight to behold. Overlooking serene Singda Lake, this dam acts as a multi-purpose irrigation project for entire Manipur. The dam is surrounded by lush green paddy fields and hills and is considered as one of the ideal tourist spots in Manipur for picnics, day trips, trekking, and hiking.

Narurang Falls, originating from the river by the same name, is a wonderful sightseeing spot in Tawang, dropping down from 100 mtr through multiple steps. Located en route Tawang to Zeminthang, this waterfall is a serene and scenic place, perfect for day trips. Also known as Jang Falls, this gorgeous waterfall is surrounded by luxuriant forests and the beauty and serenity have made it one of the top-rated places to visit in Tawang. A hydel power station is located just beside the waterfall, which is open to tourists.
4. Bumla Pass – Scenic and serene
Bumla Pass connects India with China and is counted as one of the most sought-after places to see in Tawang. The best time to visit this place is from May to October, as for rest of the moths, Bumla Pass remains frozen. The pass at 16000 feet is believed and honored to be as the passage which His Holiness Dalai Lama took to escape from Tibet to India.
5. Pankang Teng Tso Lake – The sparkling beauty of Tawang
Pankang Teng Tso Lake or Ptso Lake is blessed with fresh air, lush flora and overwhelming tranquillity. Encircled by bright and beautiful rhododendron flowers, Pankang Teng Tso Lake is the ideal spot for bird watching. Plan to visit this mesmeric lake in summer months. During winter, Pankang Teng Tso Lake freezes and acts as skiing ground for locals and tourists.

Deep gorges and majestic hills rising in the distance await at Laitlum. You can spend hours exploring the meadows or just sitting down on the grass and admiring nature’s handiwork. 3. Sacred Grove
A ways from the town in Mawphlang is an oasis of sorts with old
trees and meadows creating an Eden-like world. The Sacred Grove is a protected forest overseen by a local deity. You can visit and admire the native flora and fauna but you aren’t allowed to remove anything from here – this goes for leaves, stones, twigs et al.
The Sacred Grove has for long been one of the best places to visit near Shillong especially for those who love nature walks. Local guides will take you in and narrate fascinating tales of lore.

4. David Scott Trail
One of the most popular places around Shillong for hiking enthusiasts, the David Scott trail is a 16-kilometer hiking route that starts from Mawphlang and ends at Lad Mawphlang in Sohra. The walk is easy although beginner hikers may find it a tad long. The trail winds around hills and crosses streams dotted with rocks. Pack a picnic as there are many scenic spots along the way.

5. Kyllang Rock
About 50 kilometers from Shillong and around 10 kilometers from Mairang in West Khasi Hills district is a huge granite rock formation that is a treat to climb (steps are built so you don’t need bouldering skills!). It’s believed that you can’t fall off the top of the rock owing to a magnetic field. However, we advise you not to try it anyway! Once at the top, seat yourself down and feel the wind refresh you. Take along a good camera for long-distance shots of villages in the distance.

TSOMGO LAKE
Tsomgo lake which is located just 38 km away from the capital city of Sikkim, Gangtok, is among the most popular tourist places in Sikkim. A snaky road through rocky mountain topography and strident mountains which takes you to the Tsomgo Lake is a lot of adventure in itself.
